ADHD

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a developmental neuropsychiatric disorder condition characterised by lack of focus, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. As per criteria released by WHO, around 2% of children suffer from it, affecting 3 times as many boys as girls. A child must exhibit symptoms for at least six months before it is classified as ADHD.

Common symptoms include inability to remember things and details, often losing things, forgetfulness, frequently switching activities, trouble with organisation and following instructions, interrupting

others while talking, difficulty staying quiet or awaiting their turn, fidgeting, the desire for constant activity, difficulty in social interaction, etc. This leads to learning disabilities and poor academic performance, sleeplessness, anxiety, aversion to social contact and substance abuse. Despite being well documented, ADHD is often passed off as bad behaviour – further aggravating the situation. For over 30% of children with ADHD, the symptoms persist into adulthood. Their actions are often misunderstood and can cause considerable distress to the patient.

While there is no cure for ADHD, the symptoms can be managed and often completely negated through counselling and therapy (some medication is used in acute cases). Symptoms have often been linked with dietary intake and some studies point to links with Immunoglobulin G (IgG) levels. The ImuPro tests help determine any trigger foods that might be associated with the patient and IgG levels. The most comprehensive of the tests checks 270 kinds of food items for a comprehensive overview and suggests alternatives in a food group. You can create a balanced diet without compromising on nutrition by reintroducing essential nutrients from a food group into the meal plan. Dietary intake has also been linked to ADHD by many studies and is known to influence many indicators. In some cases, following a controlled diet regimen has shown not only reduction, but complete abatement of multiple symptoms.

Modern ADHD treatment often recommends a controlled diet with the aim of controlling symptoms through elimination of trigger foods. ImuPro is currently the best tool to determine intolerance and plan a holistic treatment plan.
